If the How would that make you feel? book series is about decolonizing our minds, the Our Africentric Hangout is about Healing our Hearts with two objectives in mind:

• Creating a healing environment where people feel free to talk openly about topics that promote African identity

• Promoting unity between Africans in Africa, Africans and black people in the diaspora, and generate support for the Africentric Youth Economy investment Fund.

Our Themes

Poetry, music, dance and art that promote African culture

African traditional approaches to developing the Africentric Youth Economy, from education, food security and health to media, finance and realty

Outputs of the BGUN teams, forums, working groups and community groups

Campaigns to engage conscious and conscientious young Africans

Innovation at the crossroads where traditional Africa meets modern technology

The Show Format:

Type: Audio-visual podcast (primarily audio)

Length: 90 – 120 minutes

Frequency: Weekly

Structure: Group/community Meet-Up featuring members, guest interviews, audience guest appearances, Africentric topics, meditations, poetry, reading, music, talk/reflections

Tone: Conversational, fireside chat, young people communing with elders, reflective, empowering, fun-filled, culturally rooted

Interactive Approach: Pre-prepared questions and spontaneous questions

Main Target Audience: African and black youth (18–35), both on the continent and in the diaspora

Location: Virtual. Links will be provided in advance to participants

If you're an ordinary African youth who has questions about the stories that you have been told and wondered about who you are beneath the stories that have defined your identity as an African, then check out the menu of ideas being discussed.

• This will be followed by The Power of African Names: Reclaiming Identity and Cultural Heritage
